Silver graphite contacts are produced from silver graphite contact material by a sintering and extrusion process. During extrusion and subsequent processing, the graphite phase forms a directional, fiber-like distribution within the silver matrix. This structure combines the electrical conductivity of silver with the anti-welding properties of graphite.
Our silver graphite contacts are mainly used in circuit breakers and electrical protection devices where low contact resistance, resistance to contact welding and reliable switching performance are required.
Sintered and Extruded Silver Graphite
The performance of silver graphite depends not only on its composition, but also on how the graphite is distributed within the silver matrix.
After sintering and extrusion, graphite particles are oriented along the processing direction. Depending on the final contact design, the graphite orientation can be arranged in relation to the working contact surface.
This directional structure helps improve the electrical and mechanical behavior of the contact material and is an important part of the manufacturing process for silver graphite contacts.
Contact Performance
The combination of silver and graphite gives the material several properties required in switching and protection devices:
- Low and stable contact resistance
- Good resistance to contact welding
- Good resistance to arc erosion
- Low temperature rise under suitable operating conditions
- Stable performance during repeated switching
Graphite plays an important role in reducing the tendency of the contact surfaces to weld together, while the silver matrix provides the conductive path.
Actual electrical performance depends on the graphite content, contact dimensions, contact pressure and operating conditions of the final device.

Circuit Breaker Applications
Silver graphite contacts are mainly used in circuit breakers and other electrical protection devices.
Typical applications include:

- AC switching devices
In some contact systems, silver graphite is used as one side of the contact pair, with silver nickel or copper-based contact materials used on the mating side according to the electrical design.
The final material combination should be selected according to the current level, switching characteristics and protection requirements of the device.
Custom Silver Graphite Contacts
We manufacture silver graphite contacts according to customer drawings and samples. Contact dimensions, material grade and graphite orientation can be selected according to the application.
For new projects, please provide the contact drawing, required AgC grade, operating current and voltage, application and estimated quantity. For an existing circuit breaker contact, a sample or current material specification can also be used for evaluation.
