Silver Alloy Wire

Silver alloy wire is used as a raw contact material for the production of electrical contact rivets, contact buttons and other switching contact parts. Different silver alloys are selected according to the current load, arc conditions, switching frequency and required electrical life.

Our silver alloy wire range includes Ag, FAg, AgNi, AgCdO and AgSnO₂, with standard wire diameters generally available from 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm.

The wire is mainly supplied for manufacturers of electrical contacts and low-voltage switching components rather than as general-purpose silver wire.

Silver alloy wire is commonly processed into contact parts by cold heading, cutting or other contact-forming processes.

Typical finished parts include:

• Solid contact rivets
• Bimetal contact rivets
• Electrical contact buttons
• Contact tips
• Contact parts for relays, contactors and circuit breakers

For contact manufacturers, wire diameter, material consistency and surface condition need to match the forming process as well as the final electrical application.

A wire used to produce a small relay contact, for example, may have different material and dimensional requirements from wire intended for a molded case circuit breaker contact.

AgNi Silver Nickel Wire

AgNi combines the electrical conductivity of silver with the mechanical and wear characteristics provided by nickel. It offers good resistance to arc erosion and material transfer and is widely used in low-voltage switching devices.

AgSnO₂ Silver Tin Oxide Wire

AgSnO₂ is used where resistance to contact welding and electrical arc erosion is important. It is commonly considered for switching applications with higher electrical and thermal stress.

AgCdO Silver Cadmium Oxide Wire

AgCdO has traditionally been used as an electrical contact material because of its switching and arc-resistance characteristics.

Ag and FAg Wire

Fine silver and fine-grain silver wire can be used for electrical contacts where high conductivity and stable contact performance are required and the switching conditions are suitable for these materials.

The correct grade should be selected according to the actual contact load rather than conductivity alone.

Silver alloy contact wire is mainly used in low-voltage electrical products such as:

Circuit breakers

• Including miniature circuit breakers, molded case circuit breakers and other protective switching devices.

Contactors

• Silver alloy wire can be formed into contact parts used in industrial and low-voltage contactors.

Relays and switches

• Smaller diameter contact wire can be used to produce contact rivets and contact buttons for different relay and switch structures.

The finished electrical contacts are ultimately used in equipment and systems such as rail transit, machine tools, building protection circuits, power distribution equipment, industrial control systems and other low-voltage electrical installations.

The silver alloy grade should not be selected only from the name of the electrical device.

Before confirming a wire material, it is useful to know:

• What type of contact will be produced
• Contact diameter and finished dimensions
• Rated voltage and current
• AC or DC load
• Load characteristics
• Expected switching frequency and electrical life
• Contact forming or cold-heading process

If the finished contact material has already been specified by the equipment manufacturer, we can supply the wire according to the required alloy grade and dimensions.

Our silver alloy wire specifications are generally available from 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm diameter.

There is no fixed minimum order quantity. Orders can be arranged according to the customer's actual requirements, and the normal delivery period is 7–15 days.
